"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?

Be not deceived:

neither fornicators (an unmarried person who engages in sexual intercourse),

nor idolaters, (an exceedingly strong passion/desire of something or someone other than God),

nor adulterers (voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse),

nor effeminate (of a man having or showing characteristics regarded as typical of a woman; unmanly, homosexual),

nor abusers of themselves with mankind(self-harm and/or someone who treats another person in a cruel, violent, harmful or unfair way),

Nor thieves(a person who steals another person's possessions or property),

nor covetous (marked by exceeding desire for wealth or possessions or for another's possessions),

nor drunkards, (all drinking of alcohol is drunkenness),

nor revilers (criticize in an abusive or angrily insulting manner),

nor extortioners (the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats),

shall inherit the kingdom of God"

WHAT IS UNGODLINESS.jpg

The Bible talks of “the ungodly” as those who are separated from God. Ungodliness is the condition of being polluted with sin. To be ungodly is to act in a way that is contrary to the nature of God, to actively oppose God in disobedience, or to have an irreverent disregard for God. The Bible often speaks of “the flesh” in reference to things that emanate from our sinful natures. The acts of the flesh and the desires of the world fall under the category of ungodliness.

Second Peter 3:7 says that the ungodly will face judgment. Revelation 20:14–15 says, “Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” Ultimately, those who reject God—the ungodly—will be separated from Him forever.

Jude refers to false teachers as ungodly. His description contains these characteristics of ungodliness: they pervert the grace of God into a license for immorality, and they deny Jesus Christ as the only Sovereign and Lord (Jude 1:4). Later, Jude mentions the “ungodly acts” of the wicked and “defiant words” that the ungodly speak against God (verse 15). The ungodly are also characterized as “grumblers and faultfinders” who selfishly follow “their own evil desires,” boast and flatter (verse 16). The ungodly scoff at the truth of God and attempt to divide churches (verses 18–19).

Amazingly, Jesus sacrificed Himself for the ungodly. Romans 5:6 and 8 says, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. . . . God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God justifies the ungodly (Romans 4:5), clothing them with the righteousness of Christ and enabling them to “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way” (Colossians 1:10).

Our sanctification is progressive. That is, even though we are saved and justified in Christ, we sometimes still act in ungodly ways. We are still in the process of being transformed into His image (Romans 8:29–302 Corinthians 3:18Philippians 1:6). We are declared righteous before God but are still being made holy in practical terms. In short, we still sin. Scripture says we should confess our sin and trust God’s forgiveness (1 John 1:8–9). Nothing can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ (Romans 8:31–39). We are no longer numbered among the ungodly, even though we still fight our fleshly urges and sometimes act in ungodly ways.

Generally speaking, the ungodly are those who do not know God through Jesus Christ. They have rejected God’s Son and remain in their sins. Those who are in Christ have their sins forgiven and are becoming more godly. Believers naturally seek to remove all ungodliness from their lives (1 John 3:9).

Sin takes many forms and needs to be exposed for what it is!

Who defines sin and determines who are sinners?    God does!

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them"

Ephesians 5:11 (KJV)  Matthew Henry Commentary

"Rather than have fellowship with them (sinners), we must reprove (rebuke, reprimand, expose), them,

implying that if we do not reprove the sins of others we have fellowship with them.

We must prudently and in our places witness against the sins of others,

and endeavour to convince them of their sinfulness" - (Matthew Henry, Minister, Author, 1662-1714)

Ungodly International Standard Bible Encyclopedia Online

un-god'-li (rasha` (Ps 1:1), "wicked," beliya`al (2 Sam 22:5), "worthless"; in the New Testament asebes (Rom 5:6), e.g. indicating that the persons so called are both irreverent and impious): Trench says that the idea of active opposition to religion is involved in the word, that it is a deliberate withholding from God of His dues of prayer and of service; a standing, so to speak, in battle array against God and His claims to respect, reverence and obedience. Those whose sins are particularly aggravating and deserving of God's wrath are the "ungodly." And yet it is for such that Jesus Christ died (Rom 5:6).

UNGOD'LINESS, Impiety; wickedness; disregard of God and his commands and neglect of his worship; or any positive act of disobedience or irreverence.

The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness. Rom. 1.

UNGOD'LY,

1. Wicked; impious; neglecting the fear and worship of God, or violating his commands. 1 Peter 4.

2. Sinful; contrary to the divine commands; as ungodly deeds. Jude 4.

3. Polluted by wickedness; as an ungodly day.

GOD DOESN'T HEAR THE PRAYERS OF SINNERS!
tuxpi.com.1582946159.jpg

"NOW WE KNOW THAT GOD HEARETH NOT SINNERS:

but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth"

John 9:31 (KJV) Matthew Henry Commentary

He lays it down for an undoubted truth that none but good men are the favourites of heaven (v. 31): Now we know, you know it as well as I, that God heareth not sinners; but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does his will, him he heareth. Here,

  • [a.] The assertions, rightly understood, are true.

    • First, Be it spoken to the terror of the wicked, God heareth not sinners, that is, such sinners as the Pharisees meant when they said of Christ, He is a sinner, one that, under the shelter of God's name, advanced the devil's interest. This bespeaks no discouragement to repenting returning sinners, but to those that go on still in their trespasses, that make their prayers not only consistent with, but subservient to, their sins, as the hypocrites do; God will not hear them, he will not own them, nor give an answer of peace to their prayers.

  • Secondly, Be it spoken to the comfort of the righteous, If any man be a worshipper of God, and does his will, him he heareth. Here is,

  • 1. The complete character of a good man: he is one that worships God,and does his will; he is constant in his devotions at set times, and regular in his conversation at all times. He is one that makes it his business to glorify his Creator by the solemn adoration of his name and a sincere obedience to his will and law; both must go together.

  • 2. The unspeakable comfort of such a man: him God hears; hears his complaints, and relieves him; hears his appeals, and rights him; hears his praises, and accepts them; hears his prayers, and answers them, Ps. 34:15.

  • [b.] The application of these truths is very pertinent to prove that he, at whose word such a divine power was put forth as cured one born blind, was not a bad man, but, having manifestly such an interest in the holy God as that he heard him always (ch. 11:41, 42), was certainly a holy one.

"He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law,

EVEN HIS PRAYER SHALL BE ABOMINATION"

Proverbs 28:9 (KJV) Matthew Henry Commentary

  • 1. It is by the word and prayer that our communion with God is kept up. God speaks to us by his law, and expects we should hear him and heed him; we speak to him by prayer, to which we wait for an answer of peace. How reverent and serious should we be, whenever we are hearing from and speaking to the Lord of glory!

  • 2. If God's word be not regarded by us, our prayers shall not only not be accepted of God, but they shall be an abomination to him, not only our sacrifices, which were ceremonial appointments, but even our prayers, which are moral duties, and which, when they are put up by the upright, are so much his delight. See Isa. 1:1115. The sinner whose prayers God is thus angry at is one who wilfully and obstinately refuses to obey God's commandments, who will not so much as give them the hearing, but causes his ear to decline the law, and refuses when God calls; God will therefore justly refuse him when he calls. See Prov. 1:2428.

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses,

KNOW YE NOT THAT THE FRIENDSHIP OF THE WORLD IS ENMITY WITH GOD?

whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God"

James 4:4 (KJV) Matthew Henry Commentary

Worldly people are here called adulterers and adulteresses, because of their perfidiousness of God, while they give their best affections to the world. Covetousness is elsewhere called idolatry, and it is here called adultery; it is a forsaking of him to whom we are devoted and espoused, to cleave to other things; there is this brand put upon worldly-mindedness-that it is enmity to God. A man may have a competent portion of the good things of this life, and yet may keep himself in the love of God; but he who sets his heart upon the world, who places his happiness in it, and will conform himself to it, and do any thing rather than lose its friendship, he is an enemy to God; it is constructive treason and rebellion against God to set the world upon his throne in our hearts. Whosoever therefore is the friend of the world is the enemy of God. He who will act upon this principle, to keep the smiles of the world, and to have its continual friendship, cannot but show himself, in spirit, and in his actions too, an enemy to God. You cannot serve God and mammon, Mt. 6:24. Hence arise wars and fightings, even from this adulterous idolatrous love of the world, and serving of it; for what peace can there be among men, so long as there is enmity towards God? or who can fight against God, and prosper? "Think seriously with yourselves what the spirit of the world is, and you will find that you cannot suit yourselves to it as friends, but it must occasion your being envious, and full of evil inclinations, as the generality of the world are.
